Shelter

On any given day, Nevada SPCA's headquarters is home to more than 1,000 rescued animals.  Besides hundreds of cats and dogs, we rescue and adopt numerous other species of domesticated animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, ferrets, pot belly pigs, goats, turtles, fish, many species of birds, and more.

Adoption hours are from 10am to 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 10am to 4pm Mondays through Thursdays, and 10am to 1pm on Sundays.  Nevada SPCA is closed for adoptions on these major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.  The headquarters is located at 4800 W. Dewey Drive in Las Vegas.

We always operate at full capacity, so every animal adopted frees up space and resources to bring another community animal in need into the safety of Nevada SPCA.

The vast majority of the animals we rescue did absolutely nothing to in any way deserve becoming homeless.  This is true in most other shelters and rescue programs too, though there is a misguided perception with some that rescued animals are "second-hand" or "second-rate" animals.  The animals have become homeless due to their previous owners passing away or becoming hospitalized, moving away, failing to secure them in homes and yards, losing family homes to foreclosure, becoming jailed or instituted, replacing them with puppies or kittens, etc., or sometimes abandoning them for no reason whatsoever.

Besides those awaiting adoption, we have animals in the process of rehabilitation so that they too can be available for adoption in the future, and we exhaust all reasonable measures to help them become adoptable.  At the time of rescue many animals have broken bones and other injuries, disease, emaciated bodies from starvation or neglect, birth defects, tumors and other growths, and more.  Even more are bouncing back from cruelty and abuse, learning to trust people again.

There are no time limits for the animals at Nevada SPCA.

We do not believe that any domesticated animals are inherently or incurably vicious.

Nevada SPCA is blessed with thousands of supporters and adopters, and hundreds of volunteers, who empower our lifesaving, no-kill work for animals.  Nevada SPCA has a staff of animal caretakers, adoption counselors, and an executive director.  Nevada SPCA's board of directors and honorary board of directors serve without compensation.
